The rules that apply to your rental

Rental terms and conditions

These are the conditions that apply to every car rented through us in Albania. A few of them, especially the roads you are allowed to drive on, affect whether your insurance is valid, so it is worth a read before you book.

Where you can and cannot drive

Points 8 and 9 matter most for trip planning: a hire car may only be driven on paved public roads, and the routes and regions listed below are off-limits, with no insurance valid there. If your trip includes one of these, use an organised tour or a local 4x4 transfer rather than the hire car. The same list appears, in short, on our driving guide.

  1. The minimum chargeable rental period is 24 hours. It means that if you rent a car for a few hours, you will be charged for a full day. For example, if you need a car from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon, you will be charged for two full days.

  2. If you want to extend your rental period, you must inform the rental agent in advance.

  3. You must return your rental car with the same level of fuel you picked it up with. If the level of fuel is lower, you pay the difference at the rates of the car rental company. If the level of fuel is higher, you are not compensated for the difference.

  4. If the car is returned so dirty that it hinders its inspection, the car will be washed at the customer's expense.

  5. Standard insurance does not cover damages to wheels, undercarriage, windscreen, and interior of the car.

  6. In case of an insured event, you must immediately notify the rental agent and receive an infringement notice, except as otherwise agreed with the agent. Failure to fulfil these conditions will cancel the insurance issued for the car and make you fully responsible.

  7. The insurance is invalid in the event of deliberate damage to the car caused by intentional vandalism or neglect.

  8. Rental cars are allowed to travel only on paved public roads.

  9. It is prohibited to drive rental cars:

    On the routes:

    • "Berat - Përmet" on the road through the Osumi Canyon and on the SH74 motorway
    • "Tirana - Qafë-Shtamë Nature Park" through Lake Bovilla
    • "Thethi - Valbona" through the mountains
    • "Memaliaj - Berat" through Martallozi
    • "Krujë - Burreli" through Qafë-Shtamë Nature Park

On the unpaved exits to the beaches.

    In the regions:

    • Tomorri Mountain National Park
    • Lura National Park
    • Lake Koman
    • Korab Mountain
    • Qafë-Shtamë Nature Park

You can't drive on the prohibited routes and in the prohibited regions due to the emergency condition of the road surface, and for that reason no insurance is valid in these places.

  10. If you plan to travel outside the country, please notify the rental agent in advance to complete the required documents.

  11. The contact phone number with the correct country code provided at the time of booking must be available throughout the car rental period and on the day before pick-up. We do not accept any service quality claims if it was impossible to contact the renter by mobile phone or messengers (Viber / WhatsApp / Telegram).

  12. The payment for fuel, parking, fines, and toll roads is the responsibility of the renter.

  13. The driver's minimum age and driving experience are listed on each car's page. These requirements may vary even for similar models. The rental agent has the right to refuse to provide the service at any time if the driver's age and/or driving experience does not meet the requirements for a particular car. Please use the filters to find cars that match your criteria.

  14. To rent a car, you must have a valid national driver's license with details duplicated in Latin script. The expiry date on the license must be no earlier than the end date of the rental period. Copies or electronic licenses are not accepted. If your driver's license is only valid in the country of issuance, we strongly recommend including an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your documents and providing it upon request.

  15. Renting a car may require a mandatory physical embossed credit card in the name of the main driver. If a credit card is required, ensure that you have it with you when picking up the car. In some cases, rental companies may accept debit cards, which will also be specified during booking and in your voucher. The debit card must also be a physical, personalized card with embossed details and issued in the name of the main driver. Ensure that you have the card with you when picking up the car.

  16. Only small pets may travel in rented cars and should be kept in their travel carriers at all times.
