No card hold on most cars
No-deposit car hire in Albania
A large share of the cars in Tirana come with no security deposit, so nothing gets frozen on your card while you drive the coast. From €27/day, with free cancellation on most bookings.
Deposit or no deposit: the practical difference
When a car carries a deposit, the supplier blocks an amount on your card at pickup, often a few hundred euros, and holds it as their cover against damage. You do not lose that money, but you cannot use it. It sits frozen for the length of the rental and usually releases a few days after you return the car, depending on your bank. On a two-week trip that is a chunk of your spending power locked up the whole time.
A no-deposit car skips that step. There is no hold to authorise at the desk and nothing waiting to be released afterwards. For most visitors this is the simpler choice, especially if you are travelling on a debit card or keeping a close eye on the holiday budget while you are buying petrol, ferry tickets to Ksamil and dinner on the Riviera.
We will be straight with you: no deposit does not mean no rules. You still need a valid card in the main driver's name, you still sign for the car, and you are still on the hook for damage up to the policy excess. What you avoid is the cash being parked out of reach during the trip.
Finding the no-deposit cars in three steps
- 1
Set pickup and dates
Choose Tirana Airport or a city, then your dates. Compare from €27/day across local suppliers.
- 2
Turn on no-deposit
Switch on the no-deposit filter on the search page so the list drops to cars with no security hold.
- 3
Check the line that says it
Every car shows its deposit, or states there is none, before you book. Pick one that reads 'no deposit' and go.
When a car will still ask for a deposit
Not the whole fleet is no-deposit, and the cars that still hold one tend to follow a pattern. Bigger SUVs, seven-seaters and the few premium or automatic-only models cost more to repair, so some suppliers protect themselves with a deposit on those. If you have your heart set on a large Tucson-class SUV for a group, expect a hold to be more likely than on a Polo or a Spark.
The good news is you never have to guess. The deposit, the excess and the cancellation terms are all printed on the car before you pay, so you can sort by what suits you. If avoiding the hold matters more than the exact model, filter for no-deposit first and pick from what comes back.

No deposit means no big card hold; you pick up the keys and keep your holiday money free.
No-deposit car hire: your questions
What does no-deposit car hire actually mean?
It means the supplier does not freeze a security amount on your card while you have the car. With a normal deposit, the supplier blocks a few hundred euros that you cannot spend until a few days after you hand the car back. A no-deposit booking skips that hold entirely, so your card stays free for the rest of the trip.
How do I find only the no-deposit cars?
Use the no-deposit filter on the search page. Set your pickup (Tirana Airport or a city), pick your dates, then turn on the no-deposit option and the list shows only cars with no security hold. The deposit amount, or the fact that there is none, is printed on every car before you commit.
Do all cars in Albania come with no deposit?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. A large share of the Tirana fleet is no-deposit, but some larger SUVs, vans and premium models still ask for a deposit because they cost more to repair. That deposit is always shown up front, never sprung on you at the desk.
Is no-deposit the same as no insurance?
They are separate things. A no-deposit car still comes with the standard cover (third-party plus collision damage with an excess). No deposit just means no money is frozen on your card; if you want the excess reduced too, you can add fuller protection on top.
What do I still need to bring if there is no deposit?
The usual documents: your driving licence, a passport or ID, and a card in the main driver's name. Even with no security hold, the supplier checks the card and your licence at handover. Licences not in the Latin alphabet may need an International Driving Permit.
Can I pick up a no-deposit car at Tirana Airport?
Yes. Many no-deposit cars are collected right at TIA arrivals, so you walk out of baggage reclaim, meet the supplier and drive off without any hold on your card. Filter for no-deposit on the airport search and compare what is available for your dates.
